Description

Witches Brew Wine Sangria is a festive and flavorful drink perfect for Halloween or any spooky gathering. This sangria combines tart cherry juice, pomegranate juice, red wine, orange juice, and ginger beer, creating a refreshing and fruity beverage. The drink is complemented by a candied blood rim made from tart cherry juice and honey, garnished with pomegranate seeds for a dramatic and delicious effect.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sangria:

  • 1/2 cup tart cherry juice
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1 bottle red wine (Zinfandel recommended)
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 24 ounces ginger beer
  • dry ice (for presentation)

For the Candied Blood Rim:

  • 1/2 cup tart cherry juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Combine the Sangria Ingredients: In a large pitcher, punch bowl, or cauldron, pour in the tart cherry juice, pomegranate juice, red wine, orange juice, and ginger beer. Stir gently to combine all the flavors.
  2. Prepare the Candied Blood Rim: In a small saucepan, combine tart cherry juice and honey. Simmer over low heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and the liquid has mostly evaporated. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely before using.
  3. Rim the Glasses: Dip the rim of each glass into the cooled candied blood mixture, allowing it to drip down the sides for a spooky effect. Let the rim set for a minute to firm up.
  4. Serve the Sangria: Fill each prepared glass with the sangria mixture. Garnish each glass with a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds and, if desired, add a small piece of dry ice for an eerie smoke effect. Serve immediately and enjoy responsibly.

Notes

  • Use a dry wine such as Zinfandel for a balanced sweetness.
  • To avoid burning your mouth, do not ingest the dry ice; use it for presentation only and remove before drinking.
  • Honey can be substituted with agave syrup for a vegan alternative.
  • Prepare the candied blood rim ahead of time and store in the refrigerator.
  • Adjust the amount of ginger beer to taste for more or less fizz.
