Pastry
- 1 roll puff pastry
Spread
- 3-4 tablespoons basil pesto
- 3-4 tablespoons cream cheese, optional
- 2 tablespoons shredded cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 200°C / 400°F to prepare for baking the puff pastry snack.
- Roll Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheet over parchment paper to create an even surface for spreading.
- Spread Cheese and Pesto: Evenly spread the cream cheese (if using) onto the puff pastry, followed by an even layer of basil pesto using a spoon or spatula.
- Add Shredded Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the pesto-covered puff pastry.
- Cut Strips: Using a knife or wheel cutter, cut the puff pastry into strips approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide.
- Shape Trees: Fold the strips to resemble Christmas tree shapes. Optionally, place a skewer in the middle for support.
- Bake: Place the shaped puff pastry snacks on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
Notes
- Try making your own basil pesto from scratch for fresher flavor.
- Add a small cut-out star made of cheese on top of each tree for extra festive decoration.
- Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- If you prefer a stronger cheese flavor, increase the shredded cheese amount slightly.
- Allow the puff pastry to thaw properly before rolling for best results.
