Description

These Jalapeno Popper Wonton Cups are a delicious and easy appetizer that combines creamy, spicy, and savory flavors in a crispy wonton shell. Perfect for parties or game day, these bite-sized treats feature a creamy cream cheese and sour cream mixture mixed with bacon, cheddar cheese, and jalapeños, baked inside golden wonton wrappers.

Ingredients

Scale

Wonton Cups

  • 12 wonton wrappers

Filling

  • 4 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 12 oz. bacon, cooked and crumbled (reserve 2 tablespoons)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (reserve 2 tablespoons)
  • 3-4 jalapeños, seeded and chopped (for more spice, do not remove all seeds)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the wonton cups.
  2. Prepare Muffin Pan: Spray a 12-cup muffin pan with cooking spray to prevent the wontons from sticking.
  3. Bake Wonton Wrappers: Place one wonton wrapper into each muffin cup, then bake for 10 minutes or until they are lightly browned and crisp.
  4. Cool Wonton Cups: Remove the muffin pan from the oven and allow the wonton cups to cool slightly before filling.
  5. Mix Filling: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, crumbled bacon (except reserved amount), shredded cheddar cheese (except reserved amount), and chopped jalapeños. Stir until well mixed.
  6. Fill Wonton Cups: Spoon the prepared filling evenly into each of the slightly cooled wonton cups.
  7. Add Toppings: Sprinkle the reserved 2 tablespoons of crumbled bacon and 2 tablespoons of shredded cheddar cheese on top of each filled cup.
  8. Bake Filled Cups: Return the muffin pan to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the wontons are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

  • For extra spice, leave some jalapeño seeds in the filling.
  • Wonton wrappers can be found in the produce or refrigerated section of most grocery stores.
  • Allow the wonton cups to cool slightly before filling to prevent the filling from melting too quickly and making the cups soggy.
  • Use a sharp knife to carefully seed and chop jalapeños to control heat level.
  • These cups can be made ahead and reheated in the oven before serving for convenience.
  • Substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt for a tangier flavor and added protein.
