Description

A delightful homemade strawberry toaster strudel recipe featuring flaky puff pastry filled with sweet strawberry jam, baked to golden perfection and topped with a smooth vanilla icing.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastries

  • 2 sheets puff pastry
  • ¾ cup strawberry jam

Egg Wash

  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon water

Icing

  • ½ cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1½ teaspoons whole milk
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla powder, optional

Instructions

  1. Prepare Pastry: Thaw puff pastry according to package directions. Heat oven to 375℉ (190℃). Line 2 sheet pans with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Cut and Fill Dough: Working with one sheet of pastry at a time, unfold dough and smooth seams. Cut into 6 equal rectangles and place on prepared sheet pan. Spoon 2 tablespoons of strawberry jam in the center of each rectangle, spreading evenly while leaving a ½-inch border.
  3. Apply Egg Wash: Whisk the egg and water together in a small bowl to make egg wash. Brush egg wash around edges of filled dough rectangles using a pastry brush.
  4. Add Top Layer: Unfold the second sheet of dough, smooth seams, and cut into 6 equal rectangles. Place these rectangles on top of the filled dough pieces, pressing gently to seal edges. Use a fork to press around the seams carefully, avoiding puncturing through the dough.
  5. Brush and Chill: Brush the tops of the pastries with egg wash. Place the assembled pastries in the freezer until cold, about 30 minutes.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Make Icing: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, whole milk, and vanilla powder (if using) until smooth.
  8. Finish: Drizzle the icing over the warm pastries before serving.

Notes

  • Enjoy the strawberry toaster strudels fresh from the oven for best taste and texture.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • To reheat, warm the pastries in a toaster oven or conventional oven until heated through to retain flakiness.
  • If vanilla powder is unavailable, substitute with ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract for the icing.
  • Freezing the assembled pastries before baking helps maintain their shape and crispness during baking.
