Ingredients
Scale
Basic Ingredients
- 15-20 pretzel sticks
- 200 grams white fondant (7 ounces)
Coloring
- Orange gel food coloring
- Green gel food coloring
- Yellow gel food coloring
- Purple gel food coloring
- Black gel food coloring
Chocolate Coating
- 25 grams chopped white chocolate (2 tablespoons)
- 25 grams chopped dark chocolate (2 tablespoons)
Instructions
- Prepare surface: Line a small tray with parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent sticking and to easily arrange your decorations and pretzels.
- Tint fondant: Wearing gloves, divide the fondant into 5 golf ball-sized portions (about 40 grams each) and one small marble-sized portion. Add gel food coloring to each to achieve orange, green, yellow, purple, black, or other desired colors. Wrap each ball tightly in plastic wrap and keep them covered when not in use.
- Create decorations: Form small 1-inch fondant shapes such as candy corn, ghosts, mummies, monsters, pumpkins, bats, and witch hats. Press each decoration lightly onto the top of a pretzel stick to create about a 1/2-inch indentation, then remove decorations to the prepared tray. Keep tray covered as you work to prevent drying out.
- Dry decorations: Arrange fondant decorations on the tray and set aside to dry for about 1 to 2 hours until firm to the touch.
- Melt chocolate: Place chopped white chocolate and dark chocolate in separate microwave-safe bowls and melt gently in the microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
- Assemble pretzels: Dip one end of each pretzel stick into the melted chocolate, then place a fondant decoration on top to secure it in the chocolate. Use dark chocolate for black decorations and white chocolate for white decorations, or choose your preference.
- Set chocolate: Return pretzels to the tray and allow the chocolate to set completely at room temperature, about 20 to 30 minutes.
- Store treats: Once set, store Halloween pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks, making them a perfect make-ahead party snack.
Notes
- Use gel food coloring sparingly to avoid making the fondant too soft or sticky.
- If fondant becomes too dry to shape, knead in a small amount of water or shortening.
- For faster chocolate setting, place pretzels briefly in the refrigerator but avoid condensation on the fondant.
- Decorations can be customized to any Halloween theme or size, allowing creativity to shine.
- If you don’t have pretzel sticks, sturdy pretzel rods or even pretzel twists can be used as alternatives.
