- 35 waffle pretzels
- 35 Hershey Hugs (do not use Kisses, as they don’t melt as well)
- Red sanding sugar, for sprinkling
- 35 M&M’s
- Black decorating gel, small amount for detail
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for melting the Hershey Hugs gently.
- Prepare Baking Sheet: Lay the waffle pretzels in a single layer on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicon baking mat for easy cleanup.
- Top Pretzels: Place one Hershey Hug on top of each pretzel piece carefully.
- Melt Hugs: Place the cookie sheet in the oven for 7 minutes. Watch closely—the Hugs should become shiny and soft but not fully melted or runny.
- Add Sugar and M&M’s: Quickly after removing from oven, sprinkle red sanding sugar over the soft Hugs and gently press one M&M onto the center of each Hug with the “M” side facing down to resemble an eyeball pupil.
- Apply Black Gel Detail: Use a very small dab of black decorating gel in the center of each M&M to create the eye’s pupil. Be careful to use only a tiny amount so it dries properly.
- Set Eyeballs: Place the pretzel eyeballs in the freezer for about 1 hour to allow them to fully set and harden before serving.
Notes
- Use Hershey Hugs instead of Kisses as they melt more smoothly for this recipe.
- Watch the pretzels carefully when heating to avoid over melting the chocolate.
- Apply the black decorating gel sparingly to ensure it dries properly and doesn’t run.
