Description

Crispy and delicious green bean fries coated with a savory panko and Parmesan crust, baked to golden perfection for a healthy and flavorful snack or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread Coating

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • ¾ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Vegetables

  • 1 pound fresh green beans (about 40 beans), washed and trimmed

Other

  • cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly spray a large half sheet baking pan with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare coating stations: Place the all-purpose flour in one mixing bowl and the beaten egg in a separate bowl. In a shallow dish, combine the panko breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and ground black pepper.
  3. Coat green beans with flour: Toss the washed and trimmed green beans in the flour to lightly coat them and shake off any excess flour to ensure an even layer.
  4. Dip in egg: Dip the floured green beans into the beaten egg, allowing any excess egg to drip off to avoid sogginess in the coating.
  5. Coat with panko mixture: Toss the egg-coated green beans into the panko breadcrumb mixture, pressing firmly so the crumbs adhere well to the beans for a crispy texture.
  6. Arrange and spray: Transfer the breaded green beans to the prepared baking pan in a single layer and spray the tops lightly with cooking spray to promote browning and crispiness.
  7. Bake: Bake the green bean fries in the preheated oven for 12 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Notes

  • Make sure the green bean fries cool completely before placing them in an airtight container lined with paper towels to avoid condensation and sogginess.
  • If the container lid fogs up, it means the fries are not cooled enough and may lose their crispiness.
  • Store green bean fries in the refrigerator for up to four days.
  • Reheat green bean fries in an oven, toaster oven, or air fryer preheated to 400 degrees Fahrenheit; heat for about 5 minutes or until warmed through and crispy.
  • Do not stack the fries when reheating to ensure they stay crispy.
