Ingredients
Scale
Cheesecake Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ cup strawberry jam or preserves
- Fresh strawberries, diced (optional, about ¼ cup)
Wontons
- 20–24 wonton wrappers
- Water, for sealing the edges
- Vegetable oil, for frying (about 2 cups or enough to submerge wontons)
Serving
- Whipped cream
- Extra strawberry jam or sauce
- Fresh strawberries, sliced
Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Add a small dollop of strawberry jam in the center of each filling portion, or mix diced strawberries into the filling for added texture and flavor.
- Fill the wontons: Place a wonton wrapper on a flat surface. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the cheesecake filling into the center of the wrapper. Moisten the edges with water, fold the wrapper over the filling into a triangle or envelope shape, then press firmly to seal and remove any air bubbles.
- Repeat wrapping: Continue the filling and folding process with the remaining wonton wrappers and filling until all are prepared.
- Heat the oil: In a deep skillet or saucepan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C), ensuring there’s enough oil to submerge the wontons.
- Fry the wontons: Fry the wontons in batches for about 1-2 minutes per side or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain oil temperature and crispiness.
- Drain excess oil: Use a slotted spoon to remove the wontons from oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve: Serve the wontons warm with whipped cream, extra strawberry jam or sauce for dipping, and fresh strawberry slices on the side for an irresistible treat.
Notes
- Avoid overfilling the wontons to prevent bursting during frying.
- Adjust the powdered sugar quantity to modify the sweetness according to your taste.
- You can prepare wontons ahead of time and freeze them; fry directly from frozen right before serving.
