Ingredients
Scale
Tea Base
- 1 Earl Grey tea bag or 1 tsp loose leaf Earl Grey tea
- 1 cup water
Cherry Milk Mixture
- 4-5 fresh cherries, pitted and halved
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1/2 cup milk (any type: dairy, almond, oat, etc.)
- 1-2 tsp vanilla syrup
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
For Serving
- Ice (optional, for iced version)
- Fresh cherry or a sprinkle of cinnamon (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Simmer Cherries: In a small saucepan, combine fresh cherries and 2 tablespoons water. Simmer on low heat for 5 minutes until cherries soften and release their juices. Gently mash the cherries to extract more flavor.
- Brew Tea: While cherries simmer, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Steep the Earl Grey tea bag or loose leaf tea for 5 minutes to reach desired strength. Remove the tea bag or strain the leaves.
- Heat Milk and Cherries: Pour milk into the saucepan with the softened cherries. Warm gently over low heat, stirring occasionally. Add the cinnamon stick now if using to infuse a subtle spice.
- Add Vanilla Syrup: Stir 1-2 teaspoons of vanilla syrup into the warm milk and cherry mixture, adjusting sweetness to your taste.
- Combine Tea and Milk Mixture: Pour the brewed Earl Grey tea into a mug. Strain the warm cherry milk mixture into the same mug, pressing on cherries to release all juice. Stir well to combine.
- Serve: For iced tea, let the mixture cool slightly then pour over ice in a glass. For hot tea, serve immediately. Garnish with a fresh cherry or sprinkle cinnamon on top if desired.
Notes
- Use ripe, sweet cherries for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
- Vanilla syrup can be substituted with maple syrup or honey according to preference.
- Milk alternatives such as almond or oat milk work well for a dairy-free option.
- Adjust the steeping time of Earl Grey tea for stronger or milder tea flavor.
- If you prefer less sweetness, start with 1 teaspoon of vanilla syrup and add more as needed.
- The cinnamon stick is optional but adds a warm, spicy note to the drink.
- For a smoother texture, strain the cherry milk mixture thoroughly before combining with tea.
