Description

Boonanas are a fun and festive frozen banana treat perfect for Halloween. These ghost-shaped banana pops are dipped in creamy vanilla yogurt and decorated with mini chocolate chips to create adorable ghost faces. They make a healthy and delicious snack that kids will love, especially on a spooky holiday.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 large bananas
  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
  • 24 mini chocolate chips
  • 8 popsicle sticks

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bananas: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a Silpat mat. Peel the bananas and cut each banana in half crosswise. Then slice each half in half again so you have 8 pieces total. Insert a popsicle stick carefully into the bottom of each banana piece and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  2. Freeze the bananas: Place the baking sheet with the banana pieces in the freezer for 30 minutes to 1 hour, until completely frozen solid.
  3. Dip in yogurt: Pour the vanilla yogurt into a tall glass. Remove one frozen banana piece at a time and dip it in the yogurt, coating the entire banana evenly. Place the coated banana back onto the baking sheet.
  4. Add the ghost faces: Immediately place 3 mini chocolate chips on each yogurt-coated banana to create the eyes and mouth of the ghost. Repeat with all banana pieces.
  5. Freeze again: Return the banana pops to the freezer for an additional 20 minutes to let the yogurt set.
  6. Serve or store: Enjoy the frozen banana ghosts immediately or store them in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Notes

  • Use ripe but firm bananas to ensure they hold their shape well when frozen.
  • If you don’t have popsicle sticks, you can use small wooden skewers or toothpicks carefully inserted.
  • Substitute vanilla yogurt with dairy-free or flavored yogurt to customize the taste.
  • Make sure to coat the bananas quickly in yogurt to prevent melting and dripping.
  • These treats are best eaten within 2 months for optimal freshness.
