Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry thawed
- 10 ounce brie cheese wheel
- 1/3 cup fig jam
- 1/4 cup walnuts chopped
- 1 egg mixed with 1 tablespoon of water
- Fruit, crackers, or crostini for serving
- Rosemary or thyme sprigs for garnish optional
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400℉ and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Gently roll out the thawed puff pastry into a 10-12 inch square, making sure it is even.
- Assemble Brie: Place the brie wheel in the center of the pastry. Spread the fig jam on top of the brie and then sprinkle chopped walnuts over the jam.
- Fold Pastry: Make cuts at each corner of the puff pastry toward the center, stopping about half an inch from the brie, creating 4 triangular flaps. Fold each corner up and over the brie to enclose it, pinwheeling the pieces together. Brush the seams with the egg wash to seal.
- Chill: Place the assembled brie in the refrigerator for 20 minutes to firm up and help prevent the cheese from melting too quickly during baking.
- Egg Wash and Bake: Brush the entire wrapped brie with the egg wash and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
- Rest and Serve: Remove from the oven and let stand for 5 minutes. Serve warm with fruit, nuts, crackers, or crostini, garnished with optional rosemary or thyme sprigs.
Notes
- You can customize this recipe by using your favorite jam flavor and type of nuts.
- Toasting the walnuts before adding them gives an extra depth of flavor.
- Refrigerating the wrapped brie before baking prevents the cheese from melting too rapidly and makes handling easier.
- For make-ahead convenience, assemble and wrap the brie in the puff pastry, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for up to 3 hours before baking. Apply egg wash just before baking.
- Leftovers can be stored wrapped in plastic wrap in the fridge for up to 2 days. To reheat, use a 400℉ oven to retain the pastry’s texture as much as possible.
